Dr. Nichols Hi!

Many of us have enjoyed the classic The Fugitive for years and likely have seen this movie just as much if not more as many other centimental favorites, including Lebowski, Old School, Caddyshack, and others.

For those of you who enjoy it as much as I do, enjoy this lengthy post. For those of you who don't, up yours. Odds are you likely will be a future fugitive in some capacity. (See: Underworld, Cummy, et. al)

Memorable trivia and quotes forThe Fugitive (1993)

· The part of Dr. Charles Nichols was to be played by actor Richard Jordan, but Jeroen Krabbé took over when Jordan fell ill.

· A train was actually crashed for the movie, although Kimble jumping free was a superimposed image.

· Ford damaged some ligaments in his leg during the filming of the scenes in the woods. He refused to take surgery until the end of filming so that his character would keep the limp. The limp can be seen in any subsequent scene where Richard Kimble is running.

· Harrison Ford had never seen a single episode of the TV series "The Fugitive" (1963), upon which the film was based.

· Richard Kimble was played by David Janssen in the original TV series "The Fugitive" (1963). His mother, Bernice, is an extra in the courtroom scene. You can spot her behind Harrison Ford's head while they play the 911 call and when he is declared guilty. She is whispering with another woman.

· According to producer Roy Huggins, Gerard's line in response to Richard Kimble's claim of innocence ("I didn't kill my wife") was originally read in the script as, "That isn't my problem." But at the request of Tommy Lee Jones, it was changed to, "I don't care."

· When Kimble calls Nichols to tell him that Devlin-McGregor is behind his wife's murder, Kimble is phoning from the lobby of the University of Chicago's science library (John Crerar Library). Crerar is known for its extensive biomedical texts collection.

· The credits run over the first 14 minutes of the film.

· The chase through the St. Patrick's Day parade was a spur of the moment thing. You can see how surprised some of the people are when Ford and Jones join in.

· Rather than having to come up with a disguise for Richard Kimble, director Andrew Davis had Harrison Ford start the film with a beard, then shave it off

· The director only had one chance to crash the train in the train scene and had to get it right, so he consulted an array of engineers, stunt doubles, the insurance company, to try to ascertain exactly what would happen, the train was expected to crash into his bus at a speed of 35 miles per hour, but the director was in error, the train came at a speed of 42 miles per hour. Nevertheless, the scene still went exactly as planned.

· Kevin Costner was considered for the role of Richard Kimble.

· Jon Voight and Gene Hackman were both offered the role of Sam Gerard.

· Alec Baldwin was first choice to play Dr. Richard Kimble. When he dropped out, Andy Garcia was considered for the role.

· To date the only remake of a regular television series to be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award. Earlier winner Marty (1955) was a remake of a television movie of the week. Later nominee Traffic (2000) was adapted from a television miniseries.

· According to the DVD commentary, the scene in which the Chicago police interrogate Richard Kimble (Ford) was improvised.

· Richard Jordan, who was originally cast as Dr. Nichols, actually filmed some scenes with Harrison Ford before he became ill and had to drop out of the picture. These scenes had to be re-shot with Jeroen Krabbé. If you look closely at Krabbé's first scene, Ford's beard looks different because he had to regrow it for the re-shoot.

· In an episode of "Scrubs",entitled "My Friend the Doctor", it is revealed that the Janitor played a part in The Fugitive. Neil Flynn, who plays the Janitor, played the transit cop that is shot on the train.

Quotable:

Sheriff Rawlins: Okay boys, gather around here and listen up. We're shuttin' it down, Wyatt Earp's here to mop up.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: That's funny. "Wyatt Earp."

Marshal Biggs: If they can dye the river green today, why can't they dye it blue the other 364 days of the year?

Bones: What ever happened with that thing about your wife?
Dr. Richard Kimble: It's not over.

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Alright, listen up, people. Our fugitive has been on the run for ninety minutes. Average foot speed over uneven ground barring injuries is 4 miles-per-hour. That gives us a radius of six miles. What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in that area. Checkpoints go up at fifteen miles. Your fugitive's name is Dr. Richard Kimble. Go get him.

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Newman, what are you doing?
Newman: I'm thinking.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Well, think me up a cup of coffee and a chocolate doughnut with some of those little sprinkles on top, just as long as you're thinking.

Cosmo Renfro: When I die, I wanna come back just like you.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Oh, you mean happy and handsome?

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: [after taking credit for Kimbles saving of his parnter and declaring all prisoners dead] Oh. Wow. Gee Whiz. Looky here. You know we're always fascinated when we find leg irons with no legs in them. Who held the keys sir?
Old Guard: Me.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Where those keys at?
Old Guard: I don't know.
Marshal Poole: Care to revise your statement, sir?
Old Guard: What?
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Do you want to change you bullshit story, sir? [Poole shows guard a picture of Kimble]

Old Guard: He might have got out.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: So he showed up not dead yet. Let that be a lesson to you, boys and girls. Don't ever argue with the big dog, because the big dog is always right.
Marshal Biggs: Woo-woo-woo-woof.

Dr. Richard Kimble: I didn't kill my wife.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: I don't care.

Detective Kelly: We were just informed by the U.S. Marshal's Office that Doctor Richard Kimble is alive and well and living in the city of Chicago. Now you all know in what high regard I hold the scumbag. So I am personally donating a bottle of twelve-year-old Scotch to whoever puts the collar on this quack.

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Doctor Nichols, you really want to help him? You really want to be his friend? Then you'll help us bring him in, unharmed.
Dr. Charles Nichols: Why? So he can go back to prison? Tsk, tsk, tsk. If you want help, gentlemen, you've come to the wrong man. Richard is innocent and you'll never find him. He's too smart.
Marshal Biggs: [sarcastically] Oh well... we're pretty smart guys. Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Yeah, what about us?
Cosmo Renfro: Last time I looked.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Yeah, we're smart. We are. I mean, how smart could he be, really? Is he as smart as you are?
Dr. Charles Nichols: [thinks and considers his answer, smiles] Smarter.

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Dr. Richard Kimble! There's no way out of here, Richard! The entire building is locked down! Give it up richard, you don't have any time, Chicago police department thinks you're a cop killer, they WILL shoot you on sight! [pauses]
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Richard, I know you're innocent! I know about Frederick Sykes! I know about Dr. Charles Nichols! Richard, he borrowed your car the night of your wife's murder, he had your keys! No forced entry, Richard! He telephoned Sykes from your car, Richard! Richard, give it up! Richard, I'm either lying or I'm gonna shoot you, what do you think? [another pause, as Nichols draws down on Gerard]
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Give it up, Richard, it's time to stop running!

Dr. Charles Nichols: You never give up.

Cosmo Renfro: [after Kimble has just lept off the dam to escape] What happened? Where'd he go?
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: The guy did a Peter Pan right off of this dam, right here. Cosmo Renfro: What?
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Yeah. BOOM.
Cosmo Renfro: [stunned] Holy shit... Can we go home now...?
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: [flustered] No...

Marshal Biggs: It's hinky, Sam. I mean, this guy is a college graduate. He became a doctor. I mean, he ain't gonna go through here with all this security. Hinky.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Biggs, what does that mean, hinky?
Marshal Biggs: I don't know. Strange. Weird Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Well, why don't you say strange or weird? I mean hinky, that has no meaning.
Marshal Biggs: Well, we say hinky.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: I don't want you guys using words with no meaning. Marshal Biggs: [Sotto voce] How about 'bullshit?' How about 'bullshit,' Sam?

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Newman, get rid of the helicopter! Newman: Why? Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: 'Cause I don't want to get shot.

State Trooper: [sees Kimble in hospital hallway, disguised as a doctor] Hey, Doc! We're looking for a prisoner from that bus-train wreck a couple of hours ago, might be hurt.
Dr. Richard Kimble: Uh, what does he look like?
State Trooper: 6'1, 180, brown hair, brown eyes, beard. See anyone like that around?
Dr. Richard Kimble: Every time I look in the mirror, pal - except for the beard, of course!

Marshal Poole: [taking fax] Background just came in from Chicago.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: About time! What do we got?
Cosmo Renfro: Uh, "Richard David Kimble, vascular surgeon..." what the hell is that?
Marshal Poole: Somebody that makes more money than you.

Cosmo Renfro: [stepping in the tunnel sewage] Aw, shit! I just bought these shoes.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Shut up, Cosmo.

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Henry, Dr. Nichols lied to me. Go find him.

Sykes: [while on the phone waiting outside CCH for Kimball] Ooh, wait... I marked him.
police dispatcher: [on Cosmo's police radio] Attention all units. Transit police report officer down at Balbo Station. Kimble is suspect! Repeat; Officer Down!

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: What'd he do, shoot a cop?
Cosmo Renfro: Chicago PD will eat him alive!

Det. Rosetti: [to helicopter] As soon as you get a clean shot, you take him out.
policeman in helicopter: [spots Kimble fighting Dr Nichols on the roof] Richard. Stay where you are! This is the Chicago Police. Put your hands in the air. The building is totally secure. [Richard runs down the stairs] policeman in helicopter: I repeat, do not move! Put your hands in the air! [Richard continues to run] policeman in helicopter: I repeat, stay where you are!

Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: [Studying Kimble's fake ID now in his possession] Where are you Desmondo?

FIVE ALIVE

Another banner weekend turned in locally, where bachelor's were celebrated and so were your Fightin Philadelphians.

The draft? What draft? Your Phils turned in a 5-2 homestand and 44 year-old Jamie Moyer turned in a near no-hit gem in front of 45,000+.

Beating up on the Nats (what a GOON squad) and Marls seemed easy though. It makes me wonder if the DC team might want to bring back some of the old Expos. I think they might be able to scratch out some wins purely based on the OUTSTANDINGNESS of wearing this uniform every day.

The real test will come this week. A 5-5 road trip should be the goal. Bravos, Giants, and Dbags will all be formidable.

In all respect to young Jamie Lidell (and by the way, yes, its on itunes) and the Target commercial, we could use..............

A LITTLE BIT MORE, A LITTLE BIT MORE!!

This One's Outta Here!

Congrats to Matt Smith, who the Phillies are reporting has just been optioned to triple-A Ottawa. This guys flat out sucks balls. All he's done is walked 11 batters in 4 innings. Bottom drawer stuff.

When asked about the move, right hander Tony Alfonseca changed the subject by mentioning how excited he was for the upcoming Phanatic bobble head day, then walked out of the clubhouse mumbling that Qdoba has the best burritos he's ever tasted.

Wouldn't That Be Tweeds?

If I could escape
I would, but first of all let me say
I must apologize for acting, stinking, treating you this way
Cause I've been acting like sour milk fell on the floor
It's your fault you didn't shut the refrigerator
Maybe that's the reason I've been acting so cold

If I could escape
And re-create a place as my own world
And I could be your favorite girl
Forever, perfectly together
Tell me boy, now wouldn't that be TWEEDS?

If I could be TWEEDS
I know I've been a real bad girl
I didn't mean for you to get hurt
Forever, we can make it better
Tell me boy, Now wouldn't that be TWEEDS?
TWEEDS escape

(I wanna get away, to our TWEEDS escape)
You let me down I'm at my lowest boiling point
Come help me out
I need to get me out of this joint
Come on, let's bounce
Counting on you to turn me around
Instead of clowning around let's look for some common ground

So baby, times getting a little crazy
I've been getting a little lazy
Waiting for you to come save me
I can see that you're angry
By the way the you treat me
Hopefully you don't leave me
Want to take you with me

If I could escape
And re-create a place as my own world
And I could be your favorite girl
Forever, perfectly together
Tell me boy, now wouldn't that be TWEEDS?

If I could be TWEEDS
I know I've been a real bad girl
I didn't mean for you to get hurt Forever, we can make it better
Tell me boy, now wouldn't that be TWEEDS?
